It's been in business for 149.5 years, but it may well go belly-up unless it can find a deep-pocketed buyer somewhere. It's a bad time for newspapers. To generalize wildly from my own individual perspective, I used to read 2-3 newspapers a day. It was hard to imagine starting the day without sitting with a cup of coffee and opening up the paper. Now, I read more newspapers, but I read all of them on the web.
The Rocky has the best political and the best sports coverage in the state, and it will be a sad day if it closes up. The Post has better state-wide coverage, which is odd, since the Post is, after all, the Denver Post, and Rocky is, after all, the Rocky Mountain News.
If the decline of the Rocky is a source of angst for you, go to www.iwantmyrocky.com and share your story. If you know any billionaires who would like to own a newspaper, give them a call.
