David Farley does some investigating on the best relics. This photo, for example, is of the supposed "holy robe," the one worn by Jesus on Good Friday, then gambled for by Roman soldiers, according to the fourth gospel.
This relic is at the Cathedral of Trier in Germany, and was supposedly given to the church by Constantine's mother in the fourth century. The land for the cathedral was also donated by her.
There have been other competing "holy robes," however, such as the one Charlemagne gave to the French city of Argenteuil, which was apparently stolen in 1983. There may be others as well. Luther, commenting on relics in the 16th century, once observed that "the Lord had twelve apostles, and thirteen of them are buried in Germany alone."
