The massive study examines almost every aspect of contemporary American religion. Over 35,000 people were interviewed.
Key findings: More than 40% of respondents had changed religious traditions in their lifetime. Protestants make up about 51% of the total. The number of persons who now identify themselves as "unaffiliated" is 16%, a new high. Catholics have lost a large number of adherents, but their over-all percentage of the population has remained stable because of immigration.
