The United Methodist Church (UMC) voted and approved this week an implementing resolution of full communion with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) at that church's General Conference meeting in Fort Worth, Texas. "Full communion" will take effect if the ELCA votes similarly at the churchwide assembly in 2009. The two churches have been in "interim eucharistic sharing" since 2005.
