BTD: This whole mess started because New Hampshire did not like the calendar and jumped ahead of Nevada. This infuriated Michigan who then thought, well if the calendar does not mean anything, we'll move up too. And then in Florida, the GOP controlled legislature and governor decided to do some mischief and moved up their primary one week, but AFTER the so called all important "early 4 state window."
Five states, not just two, "broke the rules," which is something everybody keeps forgetting. Sure, sure, if Florida and Michigan "get away with it," then the rules don't count, and blah, blah, blah.
The truth is the whole system needs to be junked. Caucuses are undemocratic. They discriminate against the elderly, the disabled, and people who work. We should have a national primary. That way, everybody's vote counts exactly the same. See this report for a full exposition on why caucuses stink.
In any case, the best rule of all is: Try not to let the rules keep you from doing the right thing.
