AIG and CitiCorp--the former already bailed out, and the latter asking for a bailout--want to keep blowing cash by plastering their name on things. Citi has a 20 year contract with the New York Mets to name the Mets' stadium "Citi Field" at a cost of $400,000,000. Citi recently announced that it was laying off 53,000 workers. Meanwhile, AIG pays a British soccer team $125,000,000 to put the AIG logo on the players' uniforms. ABC News:
"A friend of mine joked they should put 'US Treasury' on the front of their uniforms," said Steve Ellis of Taxpayers for Common Sense, a Washington, D.C.-based nonpartisan watchdog group which is outraged by the expenditures.
