Most people, after being seen by the nation squeezing their own butt on national television, would, I think, be a little more circumspect in expressing their opinions

Andrew Sullivan, the guy caught squeezing his own butt on the Bill Maher show, rails against Prince for supporting Prop 8 in California.  First of all, maybe it's just me, but if you earn your living by writing, I think the sentence fragment is to be avoided.  In that fragment, however, he calls Prince a "dandy, feminimized midget":

Prop 8 has helped unearth the seething homophobia in much of black America. Even for a dandy, feminized midget like Prince. (Actually, black dandy, feminized midgets need to express more homophobia than most.)

Then, oops, he also thinks throwing "black" in there is important somehow.  Make that "black, dandy, feminimized midget"--this after already slurring blacks as riddled with "seething homophobia." 

Is this how civilized people are supposed to talk to each other?  This is the same guy who can't go a day without expressing some form of Clinton Derangement Syndrome.  Just yesterday, he said Hillary was Obama's enemy.  Why does anyone pay attention?

Not defending Sullivan, but seventy percent of the African American vote in California went in favor of Proposition 8. I don't propose to slur anyone, but a margin like that would seem to be strong circumstantial evidence of existing prejudice. Maybe it's true, maybe it's not. But if such a division exists within the Democratic coalition, it's worth discussing openly, not least for the sake of African-American gays.
