Now I know I'm a burnt out old hippie type, but it struck me the other day that the government could try an experiment with this bailout thing. My numbers probably aren't right, but if you divide a billion by 10,000 do you come up with 100,000? If so how 'bout the feds just offer you, me and all other taxpayers a deal. If we buy a car from Ford, GM, or Chrysler, they'll pay $10,000 of the sticker price? The automakers could move some cars, and taxpayers might feel as though they're getting something out of the deal. Conversely, if the buyers still don't want their cars, even at a $10,000 added discount, we'd find out rather quickly that there truly is another problem with the big three's product. Seems like, if the bailout could be consumer-driven, a whole lot could be discovered.
