Under the law, Rod Blagojevich is the Governor of Illinois. Yes, he is the focus of a criminal investigation for trying to sell a Senate seat. Fine. Prosecute the case. If you find him guilty, put him in jail.
Until then, he's the Governor and fully entitled to appoint someone to the Senate, which he has just done. Give the man credit. It was a shrewd pick. Roland Burris is African-American, has broad support in the African-American community, and was a legitimate contender for the post before the scandal broke.
Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid says the Senate won't seat Burris, but it's questionable whether the Senate has the right to refuse to seat him. In any case, the action of the Senate Democrats is true to form. The one time they get their back up about something, it's to slam someone for performing his constitutional duty.
