Several lefty blogs are aghast that Elizabeth Cheney, daughter of Darth Vader, defended the so-called "birthers" on the Larry King show last night. "Birthers" are those who think Pres. Obama was really born in Kenya and is not a citizen of the United States, and, therefore, shouldn't be president. This is a fringe view, and not many take it seriously.
One thing Republicans never do, however, is challenge even the fruitiest ideas of their own base. They want to give the impression that they themselves may not hold those views, as Cheney tried to do last night, but they'll always find some way, even back-handed, to affirm those views and the people who hold them.
