The Catholic bishop of Providence, Rhode Island, Thomas Tobin, requested that Cong. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) not take holy communion because of his position on abortion. The victims of molesting priests respectfully ask Bishop Tobin to care as much about the "born" as the "unborn."
Protesters showed up at Bishop Tobin's office yesterday to called on Tobin to publish the names of priests from the diocese who have been convicted of or admitted molesting children. Of the 125 or so priests to whom that would apply, some have been named in the press, but many have not.
"He claims that it's important that we protect the unborn. But it's equally as important to protect those who have been born and those young children who have been raped and sodomized by clerics and priests. But yet he seems to protect those clerics," said Ruth Moore, of Hull, Mass.
If a Catholic bishop wants to pose as a moral leader, and give instructions on morality to the nation's elected officials, they ought to make sure that their own moral record can stand up to scrutiny.
