Back when I was young, it was common for Americans to borrow a Canadian healthcare (or buy a fake) and get "free" healthcare on the taxpayer dime, but most provinces require a picture ID on the care ID itself.
Nowadays she'd had to pay out of pocket, though the costs are significantly lower than they'd be in the U.S. because of the single payer system and the ability for the provinces to buy drugs in bulk at discounted prices. Sometimes your American insurance company will pick it up. Depends on the policy.
But she seems to be telling her audience what they want to hear. There is another version of the story where she went to Juneau to treated.
