His speech was standard and unremarkable ecclesiastical boilerplate--for the most part, that is, until he expressed "deep regret and anxiety" over gay bishops in the Anglican church and gay pastors in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), which is "not in accord with the natural purpose of sexuality."
At that point, I left the room. I'm not listening to any lectures from Catholic bishops on the proper use of sexuality. You have "deep regret and anxiety"? Poor dear! Meanwhile, most of the world has absolute outrage, disgust, abhorrence, loathing, and revulsion at the behavior of some of the people in your charge, Mr. Archbishop.
It must have taken courage to get up and walk out. Well done, and thank you.

I never thought of it as taking any courage. I'm just not going to sit and take "moral instruction" from a representative of an institution that covered up child molestation. It was either leave, or hurl.

Almost as incredible as a catholic priest giving premarital counseling... Kind of like me teaching physics with a much greater ick factor.

Why should a Catholic priest not be able to provide pre-marital counseling? Contrary to the beliefs of an apparently quite large number of liberals, people who undertake vows of celibacy or lead celibate lives are not unacquainted with the facts of life and are not (at worst) pervs or (at best) potential pervs.
That was gutsy of you, John. Good for you.
