Yes, trouble was Bill's kind of party. He'd be all over this like a tent.

Obama has been so eager to make sure this stays in BP's lap and avoid any responsibility for possible failure that he has largely separated himself from the catastrophe. Criticism from the left is muted because he's a Democrat and the cultists believe he can do no wrong (although if Bush had been quoted as saying "Plug the damn hole," I shudder to think of the jeers this would have elicited). Criticism from the GOP is muted because many of them don't want to suggest that the government should engage in national disasters or be mean to corporations. So despite his detachment Obama's unlikely to feel any pain from this - in any sense.
