The Brown/Kaufman amendment, which would have capped the size of banks, went down to defeat last night by a vote of 61-33. Three Republicans--Shelby, Coburn, Ensign--voted with 30 Democrats to support the measure, while 27 Democrats, including Colorado Senators Michael Bennet and Mark Udall voted against it.
The measure was designed to whittle down the size of the six largest banks--Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley--so that they are no longer "too big to fail."
