Karl Rove really lowered the boom on Cong. Jerry Moran (R-KS) who is currently involved in a down-and-dirty campaign for the GOP Senate nomination in Kansas. Rove is supporting Cong. Todd Tiarht (R-KS) in the race.
Rove charged that Moran offered to back the bill only if George W. Bush or then-Secretary of Commerce Don Evans would go to Kansas to host a fundraiser for him.
The former Bush adviser also assailed Moran for his opposition to Bush's first plan for a $726 billion tax cut, calling him "difficult to deal with." Rove added: "In-between him and a camera and in-between him and applause was not a great place to be."
The Moran campaign countered by feigning indifference and noting that both Rove and their opponent, Tiarht, have "been in Washington a long time"--said, presumably, with a straight face. Tiarht has been in Washington for 16 years, Moran for 14.
