About one-fourth of young adults in the United States classify themselves as "secular" or "none" in their religious choices. They believe in God--few identify as atheist--but have less and less use for the church.
Why so? Robert Putnam and David Campbell, authors of American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us, say it's because "they see religion tied up with conservative politics, and their aversion to the latter has led them to reject the former."
