General Motors has had a successful IPO, and government's stake in GM went from 61% to 36%. Our "socialist" government, in other words, has betrayed its collectivist ideology and just sold its majority share in one of our largest companies.
Conservatives are much better at maintaining ideological rigidity in the face of facts. They were not only wrong on the merits of this public/private partnership, but continue to be in denial concerning its achievements.
Sen. Mitch McConnell said, just two weeks ago, that the government's intervention in the car business was a mistake. Those in the reality-based community, i.e. the one not ruled by wingnut ideology, view the "bailout" as "an unqualified success."
