And they are right to lie because most churches are spiritually useless but socially necessary. At 65 we finally found a bunch of pariahs of whom Jesus and Paul would have been proud and joined. We average three days per week either in worship or, usually, volunteering for various charitable or political activities related to helping the poor or changing the system for justice.

Doesn't surprise me at all. People overreport church attendance because they think it makes them look good, the way men overreport the number of their sexual partners and women underreport same.
