In the event of emergency--and, of course, there will be an emergency--the Michigan GOP plans to give the state government "the power not only to break up unions, but to dissolve entire local governments and place appointed 'Emergency Managers' in their stead."
In other words, democratically-elected governments are out, and state-appointed "managers" are in. With all that responsibility, they need a loftier title though. How about Obergruppenfuehrer?
But wait, there's more. The Governor can simply fire local elected officials and replace them with un-elected cronies or corporatists who supported him in the last election. Elected governments can be toppled simply by declaring a financial emergency:
The governor simply has to declare a financial emergency to invoke these powers – or he can hire a private company to declare financial emergency and take over oversight of the city. That’s right, a private corporation can declare your city in a state of financial emergency and send in its Emergency Manager, fire your elected officials, and reap the benefits of the ensuing state contracts.
Talk about privatizing government! It's the kind of "solution" only the rich would think up. It enables them to control things without having to bother themselves by dealing with the "little people". Out-source government to some new outfit called "Blackwater People Management" and you won't have to.
This kind of thing is what Bill Clinton had in mind before the last election when he said, "People are going to vote for what they don't want."
