Get punked by one sleazoid and everyone falls on their sword. Oh, the drama!
CEO Vivian Schiller and chief fundraiser Ron Schiller--oddly, no relation--have both quit at NPR after Ron let his hair down to some conservative pranksters posing as radical Muslims and called the tea partiers racist.
Saying anything negative about tea partiers was horrible enough--heads should roll for that alone!--but what probably bothered the NPR board even more, however, was his opining about the possibility of NPR being better off without government funding. The NPR board is made up of representatives of local public stations, some of which depend on government funding.
I listen to NPR every day, but, frankly, it wouldn't bother me that much if they lost government funding. As it is, they fall all over themselves to avoid appearing liberal so as not to stir up the righties in Congress and endanger that funding. This compromises their reporting, while doing nothing to mollify their critics.
