Pima County, Arizona includes the city of Tucson and the congressional district of Cong. Gabby Giffords, who recently survived an assassination attempt by a gunman wielding a Glock 19 pistol. The gunman also killed a federal judge and a 9 year old girl.
It seems a bit surprising, therefore, to note that, for a fundraiser, the Pima County GOP is raffling off a Glock 23. They're putting 125 raffle tickets up at $10 a pop. Even some Republicans are turned off.
"There's a woman who has a bullet in the brain and who everybody is wishing a full recovery," Brian Miller, the immediate past chair of the Pima County GOP told TPM. "I don't think that raffling off a firearm right now is probably the right way to go."
Glock is a foreign brand. There's a Ruger plant just up the road in Prescott, AZ. Why not auction an Arizona-made gun? Why deliberately pick a firearm used in a recent and notorious shooting?
Does anybody think a political party raffling off guns is a little weird to begin with?
