Those with memories longer than a nano-second might remember people making fun of John Kerry's Purple Hearts in 2004, or calling Bill Clinton a murder, drug-runner, and communist--respectively!--back in 1996.
Those who know some history might recall that Thomas Jefferson's opponents called him an adulterer and an atheist, and said that Bibles would be burned if he were elected. Andrew Jackson's opponents accused him of cannibalism! He won anyway. So did Jefferson.
